I have to confess that I, too, was disappointed by The Master and Margarita, though I have always wondered if it didn't have something to do with the particular translation.

I forget if I was the first or the fifteenth person to recommend Cloud Atlas, or even if you'd already read it before we discussed it, but I'm pleased nonetheless.

I simply mentioned a book to a coworker I'd recently met and he decided to buy (!) a copy and read it. He's stopped me a few times to talk about it. So now I'm obligated to read something on his suggestion, but they're all fairly easy choices so it's no burden.
